FACEBOOK TAGGING:

When you tag someone, you create a link to their profile. If you tag a friend in your status update, anyone who sees that update can click on your friends’ names and go to their profile. When you tag someone, you’ll be notified. Also if you or a friend tags someone in your post, the posts could be visible to the audience you selected plus friends of the tagged person. You can also choose to review tags by anyone, including your friends.

Tagging is a social feature that started on Facebook that involves attaching a friend’s name to a social media post or image online. When you tag someone in a post, you create a special link, as Facebook puts it. It actually links a person’s profile to the post, and the person tagged in the photo is always notified about it.

CONFIGURING TAG SETTINGS:

At the top of your profile, look for the little down arrow icon beside the Home button on the top right and click on it. Choose settings and click on Timeline and Tagging in the left sidebar. Select edit settings. You’ll see a number of tagging options there that you can configure.

To tag someone in a regular Facebook post or even post a comment, all you have to do is type @ symbol and then start typing the username that you want to tag, directly beside the symbol without any spaces. Similarly to photo tagging, typing @name in a regular post will display a drop-down box with a list of suggestions of people to tag.

CONTROL OF UNWANTED TAGGING OF FACEBOOK PHOTOS

You can untag yourself, but in cases like this prevention is always better than constant untagging. Unfortunately, there is no way you can stop the tagging activities on Facebook, however, there are ways to control how your tagged photos and videos will appear on your Facebook timeline.

You can simply open the photo from the album, hover the cursor over your name and click Remove tag then select the reason why you want to remove the tag and click Continue.

If you are fine with the tag but prefer not to receive new updates of new comments or likes, open the photo and click the Unfollow Post link just above the comment section.

There’s no way to stop your friends from tagging you on Facebook, but you can decide how the tagged photos and videos will appear on your Facebook Timeline. In the privacy settings page, scroll down to Timeline and Tagging section and click on Edit Settings. A popup window will appear, click on the Review Posts friends tag your section.    

SOME RULES TO TAGGING ON FACEBOOK

We can tag friends when we want to promote a site, product, video or article. It is wise to tag friends on posts you know they’d actually be interested in. entertaining, inspiring or informative posts that would usually be appreciated.

Some friends use their Facebook to piss and rant to other people. How about showing a little love instead? You can also tag people or pages to spread love and also a great way for businesses to make customers feel special.

You can’t tag people when they are not in the photo unless it is for some other important reasons.

Don’t tag when it’s better to send a message or an email. Don’t tag unnecessarily.

All in all, think before you tag.

Only friends can tag other friends in photos

Tagging multiple photos of the same people is far easier

Saves time and energy when tagging photos.

CONS;

It’s another way to waste time on Facebook instead of doing something productive

Photos of you that you might not want to be tagged will be

Even more, people, you don’t want seeing photos of you could have access to them.

All of these are definitely true to some extent. Does it even matter that we have Facebook tags? How do you feel about the Tag feature for photos? Nevertheless, there are some arguments for and against having such a feature available on Facebook.
