Facebook has announced a new Android app called Facebook Lite, which is a version of FB built from scratch to work smoothly with poor data connections and low-end phones. It’s an app for the entire world, namely developing countries where data connectivity is hard to come by.

You can use Facebook Lite as a friend’s app to connect and keep up with social networks. The FB Lite app is small, allowing you to save space on your phone and use FB in 2G conditions.

Differences between Facebook and Facebook Lite App

Facebook’s main app weighs in at 57 MB, Facebook Lite is a mere 1.59 MB- that’s about 96.5% less space. Facebook Lite is designed to use less RAM and CPU power, as well as, so you’ll get a smoother experience on cheaper and less powerful phones. Facebook Lite even works on older phones that are no longer supported by the regular app.

FB Like is almost as fully featured as the regular FB app. You can still like and comment on your friend’s posts, visit their profiles, post to your own Timeline, and do everything else you normally do.

FB Lite has a lot going for it. It’s got all of FB’s banner features, uses fewer system resources and less data, and works on slower connections. The only downside is that it feels kind of basic.

Facebook Lite Phone Compability

Android devices can use FB Lite, but it’s especially helpful for users with specific devices and in specific situations. FB Lite is most appropriate for older or cheaper android devices with limited processing power.

The US android version of FB Lite is currently still in testing. The IOS version was first spotted by analytics firm Sensor Tower in Turkey. FB Lite for IOS is available in select regions. The first thing that stands out about FB Lite is that the app takes up about 250 kilobytes on your memory once installed. This means that it occupies a hundred times less space than the normal FB Lite app and still has all the features you need from it. This app is expressly designed to work over 2G networks. 

Facebook Lite Disadvantages

FB Lite doesn’t have any disadvantages. But, if you own a high-end phone and have high-speed internet, then you will miss the standard app. That’s because though the Lite app is fast overall, however, when it comes to individual actions, the app disappoints.

Facebook Lite App Reveiw

Version 1.0.0.0.0 could be in for some better-looking versions as developments mature a bit. With a download size of no more than 252k, it’s no wonder fancy graphics did not find their way to this release. According to the official FB Lite, Google play page, the app has been specifically designed to be fast to install (and at 252k it really does) compared to the much bigger full version. The FB app which clocks in at a whopping 35 MB on Galaxy. (its size varies by device).
