In these best laptop for 2019 – our personal subjective ratings of models for sale today (or, more likely, coming soon), based largely on the features and research of our language and English models, survey owners from personal experiences using each of them.
In the first part of the review – just the best laptops for different tasks in the current year, in the second – the selection of laptops is relatively inexpensive and great for a variety that can be purchased today at most stores.
I will start with the general thing about buying a laptop in 2019. Here I am not pretending to be the truth, all of which, as stated, is just my opinion.
Today it makes sense to buy laptops with Intel’s 8th generation processors (Kaby Lake R): their prices are the same, and sometimes – lower than those of the 7th generation processor, as they have become more productive (though they can heat more).
Until this year, you shouldn’t have bought a laptop with less than 8 GB of RAM, unless it was a budget constraint and the cheapest model was up to 25,000 rubles.
If you buy a laptop with a discrete video card, if it’s an NVIDIA GeForce 10XX video card (if the budget allows, then 20XX) or a Radeon RX Vega – they look more productive and more economical than the previous video card family and at a price parity The same.
If you are not planning on playing the latest games, involved in video editing and 3D modelling, you do not need a powerful Intel HD / UHD adapter for great work, saving battery power and wallet content.
SSD or the ability to install it (ideally, if you have an M.2 slot with NVI PCI-E support) – excellent (speed, energy efficiency, less shock and other physical effects).
Well, if a laptop has a USB Type-C connector, it’s best to combine it with Port Display, ideally, Thunderbolt via USB-C (but the second option is only available on more expensive models). In the short run, I’m sure this port will be in more demand than it is now. But now that you can use it to connect the monitor, external keyboard and mouse, and charge all with one cable, take a look at the commercially available USB Type-C and Thunderbolt USB monitors.
Subject to large budgets, pay attention to the modifications with the 4K screen. In fact, such resolutions may be excessive, especially on compact laptops, but as a rule, the 4K matrix does not only benefit the solution: they look brighter and with better colour reproduction.
If you are one of the users who formatted a disk with Windows 10 licensed after purchasing a laptop, look for laptops when choosing laptops: there are similar models, but no OS (or Linux) pre-installed, so you don’t have to pay more for an installed license. Apparently, I didn’t forget anything, I turned to the good laptop model today.
The best laptop for any task
The following laptops are suitable for almost any task:
whether they work with high-performance programs to work with graphics and development, modern games (although here laptops can be a winner).
All laptops on the list are equipped with a high-quality 15-inch screen, lightweight with excellent installation and sufficient battery capacity and, if all goes well, will last.
Dell XPS 15 9570 and 9575 (last modified)
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme
Manufacturer of MSI P65
MacBook Pro 15
ASUS ZenBook 15 UX533FD
Each notebook listed on the list is available in different versions at different prices, but any modifications are of sufficient performance, enabling upgrades (except for the MacBook).
Dell last year updated its main laptops and now they are available with 8th generation Intel processors, GeForce graphics or AMD Radeon Rx Vega, while Lenovo has a new competitor, ThinkPad X1 Extreme, very similar in terms of performance to the XPS 15
Both of these compact, well-built laptops come with different processors up to i7-8750H (and i7 8705G for XPS with Radeon Vega graphics), up to 32 GB of RAM support, with NVMe SSD and GeForce 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon Rx V GL graphics card discrete M GL (Dell XPS only) and excellent screen (4K-matrix included). The X1 Extreme is lighter (1.7 kg), but it has less capacity (80 Wh vs 97 Wh).
The maker of MSI P65 is another new product, this time from MSI. Reviews speak a bit worse (in terms of picture quality and brightness than other screens listed) (but with a refresh rate of 144 Hz) and cooling. But the stuffing may be more interesting: both the processor and the video card are up to the GTX1070 and all in the case of 1.9 kg
The latest MacBook Pro 15 (2018 model), like the previous generation, is still one of the most reliable, easy and productive laptops with one of the best screens on the market. However, the price is higher than the analogue, and macOS is not suitable for any user. It was also a controversial decision to leave all ports except Thunderbolt (USB-C).
When I wrote one of the first versions of this study, it presented a 15-inch laptop weighing 1 kg, which was not sold in the Russian Federation. Now there’s another great example that’s already in store – ACER Swift 5 SF515.
Weighing less than 1 kg (and this is in the case of metal), laptops provide ample performance (provided you don’t need a discrete video for 3D games or video/graphics), have the required set of connectors, high-quality screens, blank slots M 2 2280 for SSD enhancement (NVMe only) and excellent autonomy. In my opinion – one of the most exciting solutions for work, the Internet, easy entertainment and affordable travel.
Laptops are great
If you need very compact (13-14 inches), high quality, quiet, and long battery life and are quite productive for most tasks (except heavy games), I recommend paying attention to the following models (each available in many version):
- Dell XPS 13 (9380)
- Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
- ASUS Zenbook UX433FN
- MacBook Pro 13 (if performance and screen are important) or MacBook Air (if priority is stillness and battery life).
- Acer Swift 5 SF514
If you’re interested in laptops with passive cooling (that is, without fans and silent), take a look at the Dell XPS 13 9365 or Acer Swift 7.
The best gaming laptop
Among the gaming laptops of 2019 (not the cheapest, but not the cheapest), I will release the following model:
- Alienware M15 and 17 R5
- ASUS ROG GL504GS
- The last 15 and 17-inch Omen HP models
- MSI GE63 Raider
- If your budget is limited, pay attention to the Dell G5.
This laptop is available with Intel Core i7 8750H processors, a bunch of SSDs and HDDs, ample RAM and NVIDIA GeForce video adapter up to RTX 2060 – the latest RTX 2080 (this video card does not appear at all and may not appear on the Dell G5).
Choosing a laptop, don’t forget to read reviews on it at Yandex Market, reviews on the Internet, maybe watch it “live” in the store. If you notice that many owners are marking the same flaw, and it’s important to you – you need to figure out how to consider other options.
If someone writes that they have broken pixels on the screen, laptops have collapsed, they are working and everything is suspended, and most others are fine, then negative reviews are not very objective. Well, ask here in the comments, maybe I can help.
